Excerpt
Russell McKay was at Nepean High School when the Second World War broke out, and he signed right up — a kid so green that he packed his skates to go to war.
In his years in the Royal Canadian Air Force he landed first in one ocean, and then on the wrong side of another one.
I bought and read Russel’s book as my Dad was in the 420 Squadron at the time Russell was. It was very interesting to compare day-by-day notes and we exchanged information by letter several times. He personalized information I sent him about my Dad, referring to it as “My Dad’s War”. I am honored to have been able to correspond with him.
I know the feeling. I had the honour of meeting several veterans since 2010. Most are no longer with us.
I have added two more chapters on your father’s blog. Next one will be on Sunday… August 1944.
